                       Louet Carding Equipment

                       Drumcarders

Louet carders are the favorite in our workshop for many reasons.  The extra

long wide diameter drum allows for much larger finished batts than other carders of comparable

width.  The teeth are long and soft and less likely to damage fibers.  And best of all, the

gears enclosed so fibers do not get caught in the mechanism.  The necessary accessories

are included in the purchase price, as is the shipping!

These popular Louet drumcarders come in two sized, the 8" and the 4" wide Junior version.

Both have table clamps, doffer pin, and doffer brush included.

                      Drumcarder 8"  $510.00

                      Roving carder 4"  $345.00

                 Operating Instructions:

Clamp the drumcarder to a sturdy table with the two clamps supplied with the machine.

Using your left hand, feed your unteased locks of fiber onto the small drum while turning

the carder handle.  Carded fiber will appear on the large drum where the finished batt will

form.  Continue to feed fiber into the  carder until the desired batt thickness is achieved.

The large drum has a break in the carding cloth with a wooden groove in the space.  This

is where you insert the doffer pin and lift to break the batt.  Holding one end of the batt,

slowly turn the carder to remove the completed fiber for spinning. A doffer brush is supplied

to clean the teeth on the drum when finished for the day!

Multi-colored batts can be easily made by layering the colored fibers onto the large drum.

When the batt is removed from the drum, strip off sections of carded fibers lengthwise from

the batt and predraft them for spinning.

When blending fibers or colors, remember that the more times the fibers are passed through

the carder, the more homogenous the colors will become.  For complete blending, you may want

to strip the bat down lengthwise and send the strips of carded batt back thru the machine.

This will further blend the fibers and colors.

                 Handcarders

Regular Handcarders.  These hand carders work best for medium to heavier weight fibers like

Romney and Lincoln.  They are light weight and have comfortable handles.      $65.00

Cotton Carders.  The same size as the regular handdcarders, but with softer, more flexible

teeth.  These are wonderful for blending softer wool fibers and exotics like camel down, silk

and cashmere.  These are best for use on our finn fibers.       $65.00

Mini Cotton Carders.  Smaller handcarders for blending exotics.  Great carders to keep in

you spinning basket for travel or workshops.  Also nice for teaching beginners and children.

                 $45.00

                 Electric Drumcarder

The Louet electric drumcarder has the same specifications as the 8" wide hand

carder, but is fitted with a 3/4 horse power motor enclosed in the case.  Operated with a foot

pedal, fibers can be easily fed into the carder with both hands, making the carding both safe

and smooth.  This carder also comes equipped with a doffer pin, doffer brush, and wrench.  This

machine is quite heavy and table clamps are usually unnecessary.  The carder and the motor are

shipped separately, but can be assembled quickly and easily with the tools and instructions

               provided.

This electric drumcarder in highly recommended for fiberartists or groups involved in production

spinning or felting, where large amounts of processing are needed on a regular basis.  This carder

is fast, efficient, and durable.   $1,725.00
